Touring and camping in Helsinki
Helsinki is the capital of Finland with a design district, excellent restaurants and an unexpected chance to enjoy wilderness.
Kauppatori market square is an excellent place to kick off Helsinki tour. My favourite things include enjoying a cup of fresh coffee and then taking a 15 minute boat ride to Suomenlinna fortress or Korkeasaari Zoo.
The new central library Oodi is a great place to meet locals in their living room. Oodi is open every day from early in the morning till late in the evening.
There are over 50 museums to choose from and one of my favourites is a Tram Museum. My kids always want to visit Linnanmäki amusement park and Heureka science centre, so our trips to Helsinki are always packed with activities.
Exploring wilderness near Helsinki
Nuuksio national park is just about half an hour drive from Helsinki. There are lakes, green forest, rugged crags, campfire places and plenty of trails for hikers and mountain bikers.
The Finnish Nature Center Haltia is a gateway to all Finnish national parks with traditional and multimedia exhibitions.
Camping in Helsinki
Rastila is a very convenient camping site, since it locates right next to a subway station. It is a modern city campsite with all the necessary sevices.
If you would like to escape the city and enjoy camping close to a nature there's Camping Oittaa in Espoo.
